If you are reading our article, there is a high possibility that you are familiar with a bench vise and may be looking for a better quality vise. Before buying a bench vise, this is extremely crucial to convince yourself regarding the necessity of having a bench vise. Well, a bench vise is a multipurpose tool that common people won’t even realize how effective this tool is. Our motive is to let interested people know how versatile a bench vise is and what different bench vice uses.

1. Using A Saw

Sawing is a very common and regular job for professional workers and sometimes for house owners. You can use any power-driven tools and also handy manual tools for sawing wooden pieces. But, sawing is always difficult as your workpiece will shake. In this situation, sawing is really an awkward activity to do. Then what should you do? Well, the best solution is to make your workpiece stable and immovable. Some people choose saw horses for this task. But, as far as we experienced, sawhorses are not the thing with optimum results. Our suggestion is to get a bench vise for this task. You just need to clamp the tool with a vise and the rest are very easy to do.

2. Glueing Wood

When you are working with wood pieces or plywoods, there is a common task you need to do frequently. This is nothing but glueing those pieces. This task seems very simple to you. But, it actually requires much pressure in the opposite direction of wood pieces so that they can attach with each other. With the proper pressure level, this is equally important to keep the pieces in a sturdy position.  A bench vise is the best thing to do in this job. You can do the glueing task clamping the tools in the vise.

3. Sanding

Sanding is another tough job for a worker, especially when he is working alone. Without any vise, the worker needs to struggle all the time just to keep the wooden piece in a stable position. Sometimes, he spends more time on keeping the wooden piece in a position rather than sanding the workpiece. The easiest way of sanding is to clamp the wooden piece in a vise and spend your time only sanding the workpiece, not struggling with it.

4. Drilling

Drilling is always a tough job when you need to drill a piece of wood in a shaky position. When you drill something, there is a huge possibility that the workpiece will shake due to heavy vibration. To do your job effectively, you need to make the workpiece immovable. For that, a bench vise is the best option. Just clamp it with the vise and drill away. You will have the opportunity to do the drilling task in a very short time. It will reduce your physical struggle, as well.

5. Open Vise Grips

Vise grip is a vastly used toolset that is great for woodworking activity. But, you will face difficulty sometimes with this tool as well. The handle of the vise grip sometimes stack tightly and you can’t move it with your bare hands. This happens especially in the winter season as everything gets frozen at this time. Well, the best way of unfreezing a vise grip is to use a bench vise. You just need to put the lever release handle inside the vise and crank it. You will get enough pressure to unfreeze the vise grip. But, you should be alert as the grip opens with great power. If you aren’t alert, you will get hurt.

6. Open Stubborn Glue

This is a common problem that your glue box is full of thick glue that you can’t use at all. Glue is normally made with sticky things. If it is kept in a place with low temperature, its cap will stack for sure. Sometimes, you will face this problem even after keeping it at a normal temperature. The fast solution to this problem is a bench vise. You don’t need to break the cap. You can clamp it with the vise and pull. The cap will open instantly. We are not telling you to buy a vise for opening your glue box. But, if you already have a vise, you can use it for this purpose.

7. Use as A Tool Clamp

There are so many tasks that require clamping of the tools with a c-clamp before using. You will feel the needs for a clamping tool when you work with grinders, compressors, planner, etc. The reason is using these tools may cause damage to your workpiece due to extreme pressure. If you don’t have any tools for clamping yet, you can get a bench vise. This vise will make your operation hassle-free. But, make sure that you won’t make the vise extremely tight.

8. Metalworking

Dealing with metal stuff is not very easy. There are different tools that make metal stuff hot and sometimes melt it. So, this is totally impossible to touch with your hand. But, you can’t leave it also without making it stable. You can use a bench vise to keep it immovable and do all the tough jobs comfortably and safely.

9. Removing Bearings

Sometimes, this seems very tough to remove the bearing from the rod. This happens mostly in the winter season when everything gets frozen. People who work with engines frequently face this problem. You can clamp the rod with the vise and use a hammer or hole punch to make the bearing separate from the rod. This is how to do this task in a simple way.

10. Crack Nuts

This is probably the most interesting purpose of using a vise in this list. This is literally a handy tool that will help you to get nuts on your plate at lunchtime. You may already get to know what you should do. Nothing complex. Just keep the nut between the vise and get your nut cracked. You should keep a bag full of nuts and use the vice to get nuts whenever you feel hungry.

Bottom Line

All the tips and bench vice uses mentioned above are for the people who have a bench vise. If you are one of them, you just made a wise decision of getting the vise. This is going to be a multipurpose tool and you can use it to do different critical and tough tasks with great ease and comfortability.
